St. Louis has some of the hottest summers around, and lucky for us this year, summer weather came early! With temperatures in the 90s in May, we can be sure we have a few more hot months ahead of us. Our landscape and garden center teams cannot stress the importance of proper watering enough when talking with customers.

June is National Rose Month so we’re celebrating with a few interesting facts about roses that will have you falling in love with them all over again.

Many of our customers are trying to create a tropical oasis they can escape to all summer long. We have gathered a few of our go-to plants and trees that emit a tropical feel without the need for a suitcase and plane ticket.

When we see a tree that is absolutely gorgeous and extremely hardy but generally unknown, we like to give it the attention it deserves. Southern Living’s The Grumpy Gardener refers to it as “The best native tree nobody grows,” and the Missouri Botanical Garden names it a “Plant of Merit, selected for its outstanding quality and dependable performance for the lower Midwest.”

We love roses so much that we are one of the largest retailers of rose bushes in St. Louis. However, the long-stemmed roses typically purchased for Valentine’s Day are pricey and sometimes very short lived. So, unless you are buying someone a rose bush (we will get to that later), roses won’t be our top choice for Valentine’s Day. In case you are curious about other options, we have gathered a few rose-alternatives to gift your significant other this year.

Most people are generally familiar with the standard concrete patio, but there are other options to consider when designing a new backyard gathering space. Our industry refers to patios, driveways, walkways, and stairways as “hardscapes” because they require similar creativity and design work to landscaping, but use stone and other “hard” materials.
