Located just a short drive west of Chesterfield, Frisella Nursery is proud to call Defiance, MO home. As more people are looking for opportunities to get out of the house and get some fresh air this fall, we encourage visitors to the nursery to make a day of it and see everything Defiance offers.

WINERIES

The same soil from the Missouri River valley that makes Frisella an ideal place to cultivate beautiful plants and trees has also made the area a perfect spot for some of Eastern Missouri’s most popular vineyards.

Sugar Creek Winery – Only ten minutes down the road from Frisella Nursery sits Sugar Creek Winery. This family-owned and operated winery has called Defiance home since 1994 and has served bikers, hikers, and plant enthusiasts their award-wining wines year-round. Sample a variety of whites, blushes, and sweet reds with some meat and cheese trays under their pavilions with sweeping valley views or in one of their cozy tasting rooms.

Chandler Hill Vineyards – Frisella’s next-door neighbor, Chandler Hill is within walking distance of our nursery and just a two-minute drive down the road. This history-entrenched winery offers live music, craft beers, lunch/brunch/dinner menus, and a full tasting schedule, so no matter what time of day you’re visiting, there is something to enjoy.

BIKING & HIKING TRAILS

Katy Trail – Stretching roughly 238 miles, the Katy Trail is the longest developed trail in the United States. One of the most popular hiking, biking, and running trails in the State of Missouri, there are several breweries, snacks, and winery stop-offs along the way to quench your thirst – for plants and brews! But if you don’t have a bike, don’t worry – Katy Trail Bike Rental is located in Defiance and offers everything from rentals to repairs, or you can experience it on foot!

Broemmelsiek Park – Only 10 minutes away from Frisella, Broemmelsiek Park offers nearly 500 acres of beauty for plant and nature lovers. There is a splash pad in the summer for families, several miles of hiking trails, and a dark-sky astronomy viewing area at night.

HISTORIC SITES

Daniel Boone Home – For the history-buffs among us, there is the Daniel Boone Home at Lindenwood Park. The last-known home of famous explorer Daniel Boone, this historic site is located just 6 minutes from Frisella Nursery. Get the most on-trend plants and then take a trip back to the 1800s within the limestone walls and clapboard shutters of this historic site.
